大陸國家主席習近平美西時間23日上午，在西雅圖會見30位中美企業家，並閉門座談。習近平承諾，會更公平對待在中國的美商；談到對外開放，習妙喻，「就像阿里巴巴芝麻開門，開了就關不上。」
和抵達西雅圖來了五位州長歡迎一樣，昨企業圓桌會議，美大企業幾全到齊，15家主要企業總市值逾2.4兆美元，相當美國一年GDP的13%，比義大利一年GDP還高，出席的主要企業負責人包括IBM、迪士尼、波音、微軟、亞馬遜等；而中方也到了15家，加總市值近兆美元，包括阿里巴巴、中銀、聯想、萬向、騰訊等。
習近平表示，最近中國經濟增速放緩，股市有些動盪；這既有世界經濟影響，有中國主動調控，也有多年積累的結構性矛盾。「但我相信，長期看，中國經濟仍將保持長期穩定中高速增長，中國經濟前景十分光明」。
談到中美貿易，他說，中美雙方正推動雙邊投資協定談判，這協定將進一步放鬆市場准入限制，建立更透明市場規則，這符合中國深化改革、擴大開放大方向，也有利美國經濟發展。經歷7年「馬拉松式談判」的中美雙邊投資協定(BIT)，有消息稱，極可能在習訪美時畫上句號。
習近平說，中國堅定不移奉行互利共贏的開放戰略，對外開放力度會越來越大，「像阿里巴巴芝麻開門，開了就關不上了」。
習近平還提到，迪士尼當年打算在上海建主題公園，當時其他官員均力陳打造富有中華文化色彩的主題公園。但他回憶說：「我票投給迪士尼。因為中國需要一個以多元文化為基礎的娛樂市場。」
期間美方商界領袖提出看法，習近平說，隨著兩國商貿關係深化，出現摩擦和分歧很自然，但「辦法總比問題多」，中國希望經由改革加以解決。
